This webquest was an off shoot of the lesson "The Town Fiesta" by I.V. Mallari. A suggested activity at the end of the lesson was to look for a famous festival in the country and to make an oral report about it. Instead of the suggested activity, I made a webquest focusing on the fiesta celebrations of our province, Negros Oriental.
Students were asked to assume the role of a marketing agency selling Negros Oriental as a potential tourist destination. Their task was to create an online travel brochure highlighting the fiesta celebrations of the province. The brochure should include maps, pictures with captions, and descriptive essays detailing the fiesta celebration of the town/city assigned to them.
A list of online resources and government offices was given to the students to help them carry out their task. They were also given a step-by-step guide on how to go about their task.
Two sets of rubrics (one for the group and another for each individual member) were used to evaluate the students' work. Students were provided copies of the rubrics at the start of the project, as well as a checklist of what their individual portfolios should include.
Although some revisions were made to simplify aspects of the task and process, the webquest can be considered a success as it helped develop the students' oral and written communication skills as well as their computer skills. A second webquest was made as a follow-up activity of the first webquest.
