Maria Cristina Damasco Padolina
Commissioner, CHED

Dr. Padolina is one of the Commissioners of the Commission on Higher Education. She is on secondment from the University of the Philippines Los Baņos where she is a Professor of Chemistry. She earned her doctorate degree in Inorganic Chemistry from the University of Texas at Austin, her Master's Degree in Chemistry from the Ateneo de Manila University, and her Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of the Philippines, Diliman.

As a Commissioner, she heads the Program Committee which serves as a forum for consensus-building among the central offices of the Commission and for the review of policy, standards, and procedures for higher education development. She is the adviser of the Technical Panels for teacher education and information technology education, and the Technical Committee for open and distance learning. She also serves as the Chairman-Designate of the governing boards of state universities and colleges (SUCs) in Regions I, IV-B, V, and XI.

Before her appointment as Commissioner, she held various positions at the University of the Philippines, the most notable of which are her appointments as Director for Instruction of the University of the Philippines Los Baņos (1980-1984) and as the first Chancellor of the UP Open University (March 1995 - February 2001)
